Frequently asked questions.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese energy healing technique that works in conjunction with all other medical and therapeutic modalities. It is based on the idea that an intangible "life force energy" flows through us, which gives us the “spark” of life. If your life force energy is low, it can lead to imbalances in physical, emotional and spiritual health. When it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy. The beauty of Reiki is that it treats the whole person, revitalizing your spirit and helping you heal.

How does Reiki help people?

Often, stress is the main culprit of unbalanced life energy. Even though it may be a “normal” part of life, we can still live abundantly and happily having learned how to deal with stress in a constructive way. Reiki is one way to deal effectively with stress, and its regular use can lead to a healthier life. It can also promote the healing process for simple things like headaches, stomachaches, sprained ankles, etc. It also works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.

How does Reiki work?

Reiki flows through the practitioner’s hands to the client’s energy field, in and around the physical body where the negative thoughts and feelings are attached. This causes the negative energy to be released. This process clears, balances and heals the energy pathways, allowing the life force to flow in balance again.

How is a Reiki treatment given?

In a standard treatment the client is laying on a massage table, fully clothed. The practitioner places their hands on or near the client’s body around the head and shoulders, to the stomach, and down to the feet. The whole treatment lasts about 45 minutes.

What does a Reiki treatment feel like?

Each experience is unique. However, deep relaxation is usually felt by all. Some drift off to sleep or report a feeling of weightlessness or have visions and other spiritual experiences.

How does distant Reiki work?

Energy can be sent via thought, emotion and intention so a practitioner can send Reiki to the recipient no matter where they are.

Does insurance cover Reiki treatments?

Reiki is just starting to be recognized by insurance companies. It is recommended to check with your local insurance company for details, and practitioner for more info.

Are there any side effects from a Reiki treatment?

Most of the time a person will feel relaxed and uplifted by a Reiki treatment. However, as a person’s vibration goes up, toxins that have been stored in the body will be released. When this happens, a person can get a headache or stomach ache or feel weak. This just means your body is cleansing as part of the healing process. It is recommended to stay nice and hydrated the day of your treatment and to avoid making plans after your appointment. Make some room for some self care and honour the needs of your body! This will allow all of the wonderful work you have just done with your energetic body to settle in.

Is Reiki a religion?

Although it is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion. There is no dogma, so anyone can experience Reiki.
